GO Team

GO stands for Global/Local Outreach.
Team requires a group -- including you and I.

A "Missions Committee" is the name you might have heard growing up, the group of people who decided where to send money to those people "over there" who did the work of teaching people in faraway places about Jesus.
We still have some professional missionaries serving faithfully around the world, but our emphasis, at least at Bethany, has changed. Rather than take English-speaking Americans, and train them in a new culture and a new language, we have learned that we can be more effective when we invest in people that are native to the area we want to reach. They know the culture and the customs and the language.
There are many areas around the world that need to hear the salvation story. But we can't do it all ourselves, and we are not effective if we spread ourselves too thin. Our GO Team's strategy has been to help us focus on a few key areas where can really get our feet wet. We have a number of career missionaries that we continue to support, and some miscellaneous camps and local ministries that we partner with because we believe they do a great job, but the lion's share of our talk and support goes to our big three: Russia Project, India Project, and The Canby Center.
Our GO Team works to communicate with different individuals and groups, gathering and sharing information, and keeping us informed about what is going on. They prepare a monthly bulletin insert to share updates on various missions events with us, and each member of the team coordinates a different area of missions. To contact the GO Team, leave a message with the office at 503-266-9307 or contact the GO Team online.

Global Missions

Bethany supports mission efforts around the world.
This includes career missionaries working for organizations such as Wycliffe Bible Translators,
Frontiers, and EFCA ReachGlobal.

HEARTS & HANDS

2nd & 4th Fridays from 9:30 - Noon in Room 1 at the church.
We provide the opportunity for women of the church to be involved in
ministries of compassion through projects that:
* Use one's God-given skills to spread the good news of Jesus Christ
* Provide tangible expressions of God's love to the world.

Join us as we work together to help others both locally and abroad!

What do we do? We tie baby quilts, prepare baby layettes and burp cloths for the Pregnancy Care Center. We make winter outer wear (ski masks, mittens, scarves, hats) for the church's mission work in Russia. We have also made quilts for the homeless and helped supply Bethany and The Canby Center with toiletries for them. While doing these projects we enjoy fellowship with one another, but our focus is on helping others.

Gary & Judy Anderson

Wycliffe Bible Translators
Pray fo Gary as he travels to a village to meet with Andrew, a Ugandan who is intersted in being a translation consultant intern.
Pray for the upcoming writer's workshop in Uganda as the national translators practice using the alphabets they have developed for their lanquages and test it for user friendliness. This is such an important component in how the Bible translation is received by the readers.
Pray for Judy as she helps people through the application process for Wycliffe's new global Service Program.

Dick & Cheryl Burke

Wycliffe Bible Translators home missionaries in Arkansas

Ernest & Effie Dyck

ReachGlobal missionaries in Latin America
Pray that we will be able to keep up as we are in different states / cities / towns doing seminars over this block of 6 weeks. We are halfway through
February 19 - Missions training camp
March 4-7 - We'll be speaking at a family camp.

Vance & Carol Johnson

Steve & Carol Lyons

ReachGlobal missionaries in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
To be clear in our expectations and those of the school, we asked the school to sign a written agreement with us regarding our activites there. It looks fine except for a phrase that tey have put in regarding teaching religion "without partiality or offense to any students". Our understanding was that the religion class was "Christians", and Steve and George planned to use the "Creation to Christ" narrations in this class. But this phrase makes us wonder if they are expecting all the students, both Muslim and Christion to attend. Pray for good communication as they seek clarity on this.
Ask the Lord to bring us into relationshiops with students who are already beleivers, or those whose hearts are ready to receive the Gospel.
Pray for creativity for us as we take the materials and skills that Linda has taught us, and put them to use.
Pray for LInda as shee fits back into her busy life in Seattle after the very full 9 days in Africa.
Continue to pray for the completion of the house and for the process of moving in.
