GO Team
GO stands for Global/Local Outreach. Team requires a group -- including you and I.
A "Missions Committee" is the name you might have heard growing up, the group of people who decided where to send money to those people "over there" who did the work of teaching people in faraway places about Jesus.
We still have some professional missionaries serving faithfully around the world, but our emphasis, at least at Bethany, has changed. Rather than take English-speaking Americans, and train them in a new culture and a new language, we have learned that we can be more effective when we invest in people that are native to the area we want to reach. They know the culture and the customs and the language.
There are many areas around the world that need to hear the salvation story. But we can't do it all ourselves, and we are not effective if we spread ourselves too thin. Our GO Team's strategy has been to help us focus on a few key areas where can really get our feet wet. We have a number of career missionaries that we continue to support, and some miscellaneous camps and local ministries that we partner with because we believe they do a great job, but the lion's share of our talk and support goes to our big three: Russia Project, India Project, and The Canby Center.
Our GO Team works to communicate with different individuals and groups, gathering and sharing information, and keeping us informed about what is going on. They prepare a monthly bulletin insert to share updates on various missions events with us, and each member of the team coordinates a different area of missions. To contact the GO Team, leave a message with the office at 503-266-9307 or contact the GO Team online.
